Irish Music Workshops with The Grady Girls

We are celebrating St. Patrick's Day with a special afternoon of Irish music workshops led by the Grady Girls!

Irish fiddle with Oona Grady: come prepared to learn a tune by ear, add ornamentation, explore variations, and develop the pulse in your playing. Bring your tape recorders or a phone with recording capabilities! Level will be determined by the attendees.

Irish flute & tin whistle with Marie De Mott Grady: come prepared to learn a tune by ear, add ornamentation, explore variations, and develop the pulse in your playing. Bring your tape recorders or a phone with recording capabilities! Level will be determined by the attendees.

bodhrán with Leah Grady Sayvetz: Introduction to the Irish frame drum, the bodhrán. Come learn the technique and rhythms to hold down the beat in Irish dance music. This workshop is great for anyone who's drawn to percussion- all levels welcome! Please come even if you do not have your own bodhran- we will have a few extras on hand for use during the class.

DADGAD guitar with James Gascoyne: An introduction to Irish tune accompaniment in "DADGAD" guitar tuning- In this workshop we'll focus on how to accompany different types of Irish dance tunes (such as reels, jigs, slip jigs, etc..) on guitar using this very popular and versatile alternative tuning. We'll cover all the basic chord shapes, right hand rhythms, and even some melody playing ideas as well.
